In matter of weeks after graduation from The Chelsea School of Art in Public Design BA (1997), I was propelled only a few streets away to the famous department store Harrods on the Brompton Road. It was there for many years I was submerged into an emporium of interiors and homewares
For the last 15 years I co design and direct one of the worlds most famous decorative lighting companies www.bella-figura.com which is also based in Chelsea, London. Bella Figura Lighting caters for renowned interiors designers and architects across the world.
At Bella Figura I have established its very unique house style fused with great influences from the Art Deco period and guided from signature design impacts of the 1950's and 60's. Bella Figura gives me great pleasure but equally and alongside I now want to grace the worlds most beautiful homes with my paintings and Lucite photography bonds
From early childhood, art has always been my greatest indulgence. Whether it be in actual paintings, sculpture, literature, music, invention, research, design, cinema, technology, landscape pictures and architecture, an architect I always wanted to be but maths was not my forte
With such endless categories, some not mentioned, that have inspired works of creation by hugely talented people, both past and present, but their greatness often borrowed and modified by others with the passage of time
Abstract art, however does not allow one to become an artistic thief, stealing from the masters who pioneered, often all their own lives bringing change, fantasy and imagination for those that observed whatever they defined on the fresco or canvas
Each canvas I create therefore, is totally different, thus avoiding the ‘parody’ of ones imagination being stolen by another. Abstract art goes beyond reality as when I am painting my personal world becomes blank and not until completion do I see images in my work that others may not even recognise or comprehend, its then that my reality returns
I only hope, that when my art is viewed, the observer will want to disappear into their own world of thought and be inspired to seek their own resonates thus making my paintings exclusive to you and you only
Abstract art is a rather secret world and one can become selfish in guarding the private thoughts that have been released by an artist or when the decision is made that the painting is complete. Having dramatised the concept to remain private and anonymous, it can also be soothing and an outlet to a troubled mind
It is wonderful therefore, that today’s designers have embraced abstract art to sit comfortably with both the creations from the past and present. With this in mind and with the marvel and help of technology and gifted people to advise how best to display ones talent, I feel able to share my work which I hope will convey joy, fantasy and sometimes even sadness to the disconcerting collector
Finally, may I wish success and happiness to those pioneering to seek more beauty and genius in this somewhat small, but gregarious world we journey through
